In addition to the environmental benefits, the electrification brings notable economic benefits. Electric propulsion systems reduce operating costs through optimised energy consumption and simplified maintenance. From an environmental perspective, the use of electric motors drastically reduces emissions of air pollutants and noise nuisances. This contributes to improving the quality of life for local populations and preserving theriver ecosystems fragile.

Programs and aids such as the PAMI (Plan for Modernisation and Innovation), the GATE (REMOVE Programme), as well as the CEE Sheets TRA-EQ-126 & TRA-EQ-127, provide substantial financial support for retrofitting or the construction of new vessels. These measures facilitate the acceleration of the adoption of modern and sustainable technological solutions, both to improve energy performance and reduce the environmental impact of river fleets.

The PAMI, a concrete support for innovation

The PAMI is a flagship programme aimed at encouraging the modernisation of fleets. It offers grants intended for the integration of innovative technologies, such as electric motors or hybrids, as well as the improvement of existing propulsion systems. The main objectives are the reduction of polluting emissions and the increase of the economic competitiveness of inland transport.

The PAMI offers grants for fleet modernisation:

• Up to 70% for modernisation studies.

• Up to 60% for the integration of solutions.

Supplied on invoice with deposit up to 80%

These aids facilitate investment in innovation and the energy transition of fleets.

The GATE and energy saving certificates

The programme GATE (REMOVE) focuses on the implementation of innovative solutions for the reduction of CO2 emissions in the inland transport. In addition, the CEE sheets (Energy saving certificates) TRA-EQ-126 and TRA-EQ-127 allow for the financing of specific equipment, such as electric propulsion systems or suitable charging infrastructure. These aids enhance accessibility to eco-responsible solutions for inland operators.

The cost of repowering studies is covered at 90% under the energy transition aids, without advance payment. This means that companies can benefit from almost total coverage of the costs related to the analysis and preparation of repowering projects, without having to advance significant sums upfront. This funding is particularly relevant for companies wishing to modernise their fleet by replacing existing engines with more ecological solutions, such as electric motors.
