About Weenav:
Our company : Weenav is a French start-up based in Roncq (Lille Metropolis), founded by three engineers who were childhood friends — two specialists in intelligent electric vehicles and one expert in information technology. Our core business: to design, equip and integrate high-power electric and hybrid engines on new or existing boats, in the service of cleaner and more pleasant navigation.
Our products:
• KRONOS : Powerful and flexible electric outboard motor, designed for fast boats and dynamic navigation, combining performance and responsiveness.
• ARION : Robust and silent electric inboard motor, integrated into the hold for smooth propulsion, without vibrations, offering optimal navigation comfort.
A turnkey offer : Beyond products, Weenav supports its customers from end to end: technical studies, custom design, on-board integration, regulatory compliance. This integrated approach makes Weenav a trusted partner in a maritime market in profound transformation.
A promising positioning : With 35 million boats in circulation in the world and a market potential estimated at 16 billion dollars over the next decade, Weenav is located at the crossroads of energy transition and demanding nautical uses: sustainability, performance, silence.
Background of the internship
As part of the continuous development of our KRONOS electric outboard motor, Weenav wants to design a steering system integrated into the engine, allowing the pilot to maneuver the boat with precision and comfort, regardless of the power developed or the sailing conditions. The system should offer flexible, precise and effortless control, while guaranteeing the robustness expected in a marine environment. Several actuation technologies are possible (hydraulic, electrical, electro-hydraulic) and one of the first steps of the internship will precisely consist in evaluating these different options in order to select the most suitable solution for the KRONOS architecture.
Main missions
Under the supervision of the technical team, you will take charge of the design of the KRONOS engine steering system. As such, your missions will be as follows:
• Analysis of the need and technical monitoring: study the internal specifications, benchmark existing management solutions in the nautical sector (directions
mechanical, hydraulic, electrical, electro-hydraulic) and identify the applicable normative constraints (marine environment, efforts, safety).
• Choice of actuation technology: compare the different possible architectures according to the criteria of performance, compactness, reliability, maintenance and
cost, then propose and justify the most suitable solution for the KRONOS architecture.
• Mechanical design: define the architecture of the system (control unit at the cockpit, force transmission, actuator integrated into the motor), size the components (bar forces, fatigue resistance, kinematics) and model the whole in CAD.
• Choice of components and integration: select components (mechanical, hydraulic and/or electrical depending on the solution selected) adapted to the marine environment, define the interfaces with the engine and the transom.
• Prototyping and testing: create or have a functional prototype produced, define and execute the test plan (efforts, tightness, endurance, precision of control), analyze the results and iterate on the design.
• Technical documentation: write the definition file (calculation notes, plans, plans, nomenclature, functional diagrams), the test report and contribute to the elements of the EC conformity file.
In parallel with their main mission, the intern will be fully integrated into the life of the technical team and will be able to contribute to other design or workshop projects depending on opportunities.
Profile wanted
• Engineering school student (Bac+4/Bac+5), with a specialization in mechanical design, mechatronics or mechanical engineering.
• Good knowledge of CAD software (knowledge of the 3DExperience platform and SolidWorks is a plus).
• Skills in mechanical dimensioning (RDM, force calculations, fatigue resistance), choice of materials and manufacturing processes.
• Knowledge in hydraulics and/or electromechanical actuation appreciated.
• Practical sense and ease in the workshop: the project involves regular back and forth between CAD and prototyping.
• Rigor, autonomy, curiosity and team spirit.
• Proficiency in technical English to read supplier documentation.
• An interest in the nautical sector would be appreciated.
What we offer
• A rewarding experience in a fast-growing start-up
• Supervision by experienced and passionate professionals
• Direct involvement in innovative projects with a high environmental impact
• A corporate culture based on learning, autonomy and team spirit
• Gratuity according to legal scales
